GYOZA-DON

Looking for a meal that’s quick, comforting, and totally customisable? Say hello to Gyoza-Don! I whipped this up using Itsu Prawn Gyozas (but any filling works), and it’s my ultimate go-to for those “lazy, broke, raid-the-fridge” moments.

With sticky rice, golden pan-fried gyozas, and a savoury egg mixture that sets like a dreamy omelette, it’s the kind of meal you can throw together in no time. Drizzle on some Kewpie mayo, sprinkle chilli crunch, and raid your pantry for spring onions or sesame seeds to make it pop.

Perfect for when you need maximum flavour with minimal effort and a nearly-empty fridge. Get creative, swap in what you have, and enjoy a dish that’s as flexible as it is delicious.

GYOZA-DON

SERVES 1// MADE IN 20 MINS//EASY// MEATY

Gyoza-Don

Ingredients

  • 6 gyozas (any filling of your choice)

  • 2 eggs

  • 1 tbsp soy sauce

  • 1 tsp brown sugar

  • 1 tsp dashi powder

  • 2 tsp sesame oil

  • Sticky rice, to serve

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  • Optional garnishes: Kewpie mayo, chilli crunch, spring onions, sesame seeds, or your favourites

Method

  1. In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, soy sauce, brown sugar, dashi powder, and 1 tsp sesame oil. Seasonwith salt and pepper.

  2. Heat the remaining 1 tsp sesame oil in a small frying pan over medium heat. Arrange the gyozas in a circle and pan-fry for 1–2 minutes until the bottoms are golden and crisp.

  3. Pour in about 80ml of water and cover the pan with a lid. Let the gyozas steam until fully cooked.

  4. Reduce the heat to low, remove the lid, and carefully pour the egg mixture over the gyozas. Cover again and cook until the eggs are just set.

  5. Gently slide the gyoza-omelette onto a bed of sticky rice. Drizzle with Kewpie mayo and sprinkle with chilli crunch, spring onions, and sesame seeds or any garnish you love.
